Under the Radio impact program, we managed to purchase a radio call for communications called Motorola. This Motorola covers more than 30 kms, they don’t require credits to call and communicate with Impact Radio Station (calling is 100% free), the batteries last a very long time, more than 4 days without being charged which makes them special and loved by the village women.
We bought 10 Motorolas, we received the donation from Zonta Club of Adelaide Torrens that helps us to purchase those Motorola’s.
Two Motorolas remained at the Impact Radio in Luvungi, for the journalists in charge of the program, all of them are midwives and work at MHCD Hospital in Luvungi, we gave two in Munanira, two in Kasaba, two in Mulenge and another two in Kanenge.
If a woman is found to be in danger, insecure or is being followed by unidentified men or group of men’s, the local population informs the women leader, who in turn call the Impact radio to inform the situation, after receiving the news, the Radio Impact announces the location directly over the airwaves and asks the nearby population to go and help the victim, Radio Impact also informs the nearest police station.
This program works very well and protects women and girls in many villages. Through Impact Radio and women community development and protection program we managed to protect and save lives of many women’s and girls. Every month we receive many testimonies of the positive impact of this program.
In December 2023 alone, we rescued 4 women in Munanira, 2 in Kasaba and 1 in Kanenge.
We’re very grateful to Zonta Club of Adelaide Torrens for supporting us so that we could buy these Motorola (Radio calls) that help us fight against sexual violence in different villages of Uvira Territory.
This year we are planning to distribute at least 100 more Motorolas in the different villages. We still need your support.
