We have received reports that in many villages in the DRC, children are dying at night for lack of lighting. Many midwives deliver pregnant women in the dark, causing many complications and loss of life.
Imagine a mother giving birth without electricity, which is very likely to happen. To solve this problem and help midwives in the noble work they do every day, we took the initiative of starting the project of distributing Solar Kits to midwives, community health workers, health centres and maternity wards in the various villages of the Territory of Uvira in the DRC. The good news is that, for the year 2023, we have distributed over 100 solar Kits. Through these kits, we have succeeded in saving the lives of many babies and their mothers and improving the work of midwives. In many villages, we have significantly reduced the high infant mortality rate.
We also distributed 1300 Solar lamps to housewives and shopkeepers. These women work too hard and without support, they come home in the evening and start preparing food in the dark, without light which causes many accidents such as burns. To support these women and encourage them in the work they do day and night to support their families, we saw fit to give them Solar lamps from which we distributed 1300 for them.
