Many of the students who come to study at the MHCD Secondary School in Luvungi come from impoverished families, while others are orphans or internally displaced persons. Many come to school without eating, and some even go two days without eating. Last year we received reports that many students had stopped studying because of the famine, and some girls had even become pregnant, deceived by men of ill will who seduced them with money to buy food or clothes.
In the DRC, there are many girls who get pregnant because of poverty, which is why at our school we accept single mothers, we have single mothers studying at our school and many have successfully completed their studies and are responsible and working today.
We were very concerned about the lack of food for the students, so we decided to start a feeding program in Luvungi and Sange schools.
The good news is that last year, we managed to give food to the students twice a week for several months. Thanks to the feeding program, all the students who had stopped their studies because of this problem (famine), all returned to school and continued with their studies.
We have given food to over 1300 students in Luvungi and over 400 students in Sange. This program has cost us a lot of money and energy, but we thank God because grace to the feeding program we have succeeded in bringing back to school students who had stopped studying because of famine, and stopped unwanted pregnancies and protected our daughters and girls. For this year 2024, we want to continue with this nutrition and feeding program and we ask you to please support us so that we can continue to provide better education to the vulnerable children in DRC.
We thank all those who supported this program last year, and may the Good Lord bless you all.
