The MHCD has just built a toilet at Dietsch Academy in Sange village which is a primary school with a kindergarten section with more than 250 pupils each year, before we built the toilets, the school had only two toilets, built with temporary materials i.e grass thatched and mud. It was very difficult for the children to use two toilets and it caused many problems amongst them.
The lack of adequate toilets in our school in Sange threatened the education of children, who were at risk of falling ill due to poor hygiene and therefore could not attend school. The risks were highest for girls in grades 5 and 6.
These children sometimes held back from going to the toilet for lack of enough toilets. Holding back is not good for the body because it needs to evacuate its waste. It can lead to stomachache and can disrupt the proper functioning of the bowel or bladder.
According to the report we received after building these toilets, some children even held back on drinking water so that they couldn’t have to pee at school, or they could try to go to the toilet only once during the day, waiting for the right moment so that they don’t have to go again before the end of the class. This was not good for health.
Difficulty in accessing adequate sanitation facilities was a major barrier to education, as children often miss school due to hygiene-related illnesses.
In solving all these problems, MHCD decided to build modern toilets at School to promote good health and education and help the children learn under good conditions without any problems. The good news is that the MHCD has just built 8 modern toilets. Now the students and their teachers can use a good toilet to relieve themselves.
