Uvira Community University is a Christian, community and proximal University. It was founded by Dr. Luc Mulimbalimba Masururu and MHCD Mission in Health care and Development. It’s located in Luvungi village, Uvira Territory in the Democratic Republic of Congo. It opened in October 2019 with more than 100 students. It offers the following faculties.1.Computer Sciences, Information Technology, Agronomy, Management and Economics, Law, Political and Administration Science, Medicine and Faculty of Psychology and Education. Its registered with the ministry of Higher education and the board heading Universities in DRC.
Uvira Community Univeristy (UCU) is also teaching agribusiness amongst other faculties because Congo has very fertile land and 80% of the Congolese in the villages are working in agriculture. However, these farmers only produce enough food for themselves and this does not reduce their poverty level as they cannot produce enough extra food to sell. Therefore, the main focus of the Uvira Community University is to teach farmers how to produce enough food to sell, as well as for their own needs, so that they can reduce poverty and help development in their villages. The second focus we have at the University is Information Technology. We will train people to use and promote new technology to help reduce poverty and develop Uvira territory and the DRC in general. The third focus is on medicine and veterinary medicine. This will continue to provide affordable and quality healthcare to people living in the DRC and to promote good veterinary care which will improve animal welfare and the production of animals to sell thereby reducing poverty.
It has good lecture rooms that have been recently constructed and completed. The rooms have chairs and tables from Australia. It has one of the best computer laboratories in Uvira District and internet connection. At the MHCD Headquarters, there are guest houses that accommodate visiting professors plus other volunteers.
The Chancellor is Prof. Stanislas Baleke. He is a Doctor in Anthropology and Education. The Head of information technology department is Tom Cecil, the Director of the organization called Computers for Congo Australia. It was launched by Rev. Peter Frogley, the international Director and President of Bethesda Ministries International (BMI) Australia.
The objective of the University is to train Youths and women who will be able to reduce poverty, speak for the less fortunate and bring change and development in their village. We are in need volunteers, lecturers, universities and even individuals to support us with any learning materials like text books, books for the library, equipments or any other related materials.
